What is component 4f? Component 4f focuses on demonstrating professionalism to students and the profession. It is important teacher put the students first. Expert teachers have a strong moral compass and are guided by what is best for their students. Educators can display professionalism in a number of ways including, conducting their interactions with co-teachers with honesty and integrity. Teachers need to know their students’ needs and seek out resources to meet these need in and out of the classroom. Educators also display professionalism in way they approach problem solving and decision making. Teachers also obey school and district polices and procedure and are willing to work to improve the outdated or ineffective policies or procedures.
Why is it needed? Component 4f is needed to be a teacher of impact and best meet the need of students. It is important for teachers to be honest and kind to their co-teachers because the students watch their interactions and will follow them. If a teacher is being unkind to other, the student will see this action and might do the same thing and think it is okay because they saw their teacher do it. It is needed to keep the student first and focus on their growth and learning. It is also important to follow the policies and procedures when being an educator to make sure students are learning and understanding the content.
What are the elements of component 4f? Integrity and ethical conduct. Act with integrity and honesty. Service to students. Put students first in all considerations of the practice. Advocacy. Teachers support their students’ best interests, even in the face of traditional practice or beliefs. Decision making. Teachers solve problems with students’ needs as a priority. Compliance with school and district regulations. Teachers obey policies and procedures.
How can it be implemented in the classroom? Teachers are honest with co-workers. Be a role model so students know they can always turn to teachers for help and guidance. Teachers spread the word that students always come first, and their needs are a top priority. Teachers support every student even in difficult situations. Teachers consistently fulfill school policies and procedures. Teachers learn their student’s need and help them reach this need both inside the classroom and out. Teachers should have a professional Twitter and PLN.
