What is component 1e? Component 1e is designing coherent instruction how important it is planning, reflecting teacher’s knowledge of content and students in the class, intended outcomes and available resources. This planning requires teachers having a clear understanding of the state, district and school expectations for student learning; teachers need the skills to translate these into the plan. Teachers need to know what they are teaching and be active in students’ learning. Educators must plan accordingly to keep students growing in their learning and get through the required content. Teachers should use the appropriate resources and materials that are used thoughtfully to construct lessons. Teachers need to recognize that a well-designed instruction plan addresses the learning needs of all students.
Why is it needed? The classroom needs to be organized and planned appropriately. Teachers need to be engaging students in their learning continually growing their knowledge. Having the students in mind when planning lessons and know not every student will pick up the concept as quickly as others should also be in the back of their mind. McCown, Driscoll and Roop’s Reflecting Teaching Cycle applies to this component as well. Teachers need to create lesson plans with the RTC to be an impactful teacher.
What are the elements of component 1e? Learning activities. Instruction is designed to engage students and advance their learning through the content. Activates should be appropriate and well thought out to enhance the students’ learning. Instructional materials and resources. Materials and resources are appropriate to the learning needs of the students. Materials such as textbooks, calculators, pencils and paper are essential in the classroom for students’ learning. Instructional groups. Groups are intentionally organized to support student learning. Students need to be involved in group work to learn the skills of working with more than one person. Groups should be purposeful and not just have the same students working together for every project. Lesson and unit structure. Organization is clear and are to advance students’ learning. Students should understand the classroom routine. Teachers should give lessons and instructions that students can understand what the teacher is expecting of them.
How can it be implemented into the classroom? Teachers can create lessons that support the outcome of students. Present activities and projects that included challenges and a high level of thinking. Using a variety of resources including tech tools such as Canva, Bloomz, floorplanner, Kahoot, Google apps and Quizlet. Having resources available for students will allow them to grow in their learning and learn about fun technology tools that can help them in the future. Teachers need to plan group activities and make sure every student will contribute to the projects. Teachers should keep track of students choosing their own groups and make sure they are not distracting one another and learning and growing as much as they can. Lesson plans should be organized and purposeful.
