What is component 2B? This component of Domain 2 focuses on the importance of educational learning in the classroom. Teachers and students need to know the importance of growing their knowledge base. Teachers and students need to value hard work. The importance of educational learning is set by both teacher and student and is the general tone of the classroom. The classroom should have a high energy of eager students wanting to learn and teachers ready to teach at the best of their ability. This high energy is important and essential in every classroom. Teachers and students should know the value of learning and hard work in the classroom with high expectations.
Why is it needed? When teachers and students know the importance of a educational learning the students will be hard at work and will want to succeed. Having high expectations in the classroom will have students striving to work hard and accomplishing tasks. Teachers need to grow in their educational learning through also. Whether that is setting up a professional Twitter account or asking co-teachers questions. Creating professional social media accounts will allow the teacher to grow in their own knowledge base and find different ideas to incorporate in the classrooms.
What are the elements? Importance of the content and of learning allows teachers to provide interest in the value of their student's learning and growth. An example would be teachers focused on the students learning and using different techniques or scaffoldings (Vygotsky's theory) to help students learn and succeed. Expectations for learning and achievement. Teachers should give students hard and challenging material making sure they know they are capable of succeeding as long as they work hard for it. A teacher could provide the class with a harder math problem then what they are use to and give manipulatives that will help them be successful. Students should have a pride in their accomplishments. When they work hard and complete a harder problem they should feel good about themselves. This pride could also give them the motivation they needed and raised their self esteem.
Artifacts to be used in the classroom! In classrooms, teachers can hang artwork the students created and are proud of in their classrooms and in the hallway for other teachers and students to enjoy. Teachers need to be encouraging and tell students it is okay to make mistakes for that is how we learn. Teachers should acknowledge their own mistakes as well so students know they are perfect either. Have students turn in work that they are proud of. For example, have the students turn in work with a saying above "Don't turn in unless you are proud of your work".
